What an incredible exploration of tradition and culture! Mrs. Abbruzzese’s 2nd grade class at CP Lightfoot had an enlightening experience learning about Sinterklaas (St. Nicholas) during their Holidays Around the World Unit. From making a Dutch shoe with hay and carrots for Sinterklaas' horse to receiving a Dutch gingerbread cookie, tangerine, and gold chocolate coins in the morning - it was a truly unique journey. Did you know Sinterklaas is celebrated in places such as Holland, Germany, Slovakia, and Hungary? Mrs. Abbruzzese is Hungarian, so she shares this special holiday with her family at home too.
Mrs. Gionet's English Language Learner class at Etiwanda Intermediate had an amazing adventure this week! They learned a very important skill—how to follow directions on a map in English! Students traveled around the school grounds, completing “missions” using basic directions. What a great exercise in understanding and using English in a fun and engaging way!

Solorio Elementary is amazingly lucky to have Mrs. Lange as a 4th/5th grade teacher, and that is why we are spotlighting her today. Mrs. Lange appreciates the unique characteristics that each student brings to the classroom. She positively impacts her students with her strong relationships, rigorous work, creative activities such as “How to Blow Bubbles,” and teaching students to identify and recognize their individual learning styles. She is charismatic and dedicated to helping our Tigers succeed in school and in life.
Mrs. Slagle from East Heritage suggests using XtraMath, a free resource, for just 10 minutes a day to help students increase their math fluency. Many of her students have become more confident in their abilities while learning math skills that will help them throughout the years.
